You can ship a saree from Bangladesh to Australia without flying home to choose it. I shop for it in person in Dhaka, send you photos of the real piece before I buy, and send it to your door in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra or anywhere else in Australia, with tracking. This guide gives honest prices in Australian dollars, the customs rule, biosecurity, and how long it takes, as of October 2026.
Tell me the saree type, your budget and your Australian address. I find options in Dhaka, send photos of the front and reverse, and ship the one you approve by express courier, usually 6–10 days after dispatch. Express for a parcel up to 1 kg is about AUD $100–135. Australia collects no duty or GST at the border on parcels of AUD $1,000 or less, so most saree orders arrive with no extra charge. The 2021 Australian Census counted about 51,500 people born in Bangladesh, plus their children and families. Many of them want a real Dhaka saree for a wedding, Eid, Pohela Boishakh, or as a gift for a mother or aunt.
The best Bangladeshi sarees are hand-woven in Demra, Tangail and Rajshahi and sold in Dhaka shops and markets. Very few of these sellers ship to Australia. Many sarees sold online as "Dhakai Jamdani" are machine-made copies, or are shipped from a warehouse in another country. I shop in person, show you the actual piece, and the parcel goes straight from Dhaka to you.
Not sure? Tell me the occasion and your budget, and I'll suggest two or three options with honest pros and cons. Shopping for a whole wedding? Read wedding shopping from abroad.
These are rough guides, converted at about 1 US dollar = 1.44 Australian dollars (October 2026). They are estimates; your quote gives the exact figure.
Australia is one of the more expensive express routes from Dhaka. A parcel of up to 1 kg, which fits one to three sarees, usually costs about AUD $100–135 by DHL, FedEx or UPS. Bangladesh Post EMS costs about AUD $65–95 but is slower.
Example: a mid-range Jamdani at about AUD $175, plus my flat service fee of US$12 (about AUD $17), plus express shipping of about AUD $100–135, comes to roughly AUD $290–330 delivered. Every line is shown in your quote before you pay. Because the total is well under AUD $1,000, there is normally nothing more to pay at the door.
Usually not. The Australian Border Force says there is no requirement to pay duty or GST on goods valued at AUD $1,000 or less, except alcohol and tobacco. Most saree orders, even a good Jamdani, are below this limit.
Above AUD $1,000, for example a full bridal set, the parcel needs a formal Import Declaration. Duty and 10% GST are payable unless a concession applies, and the courier or a customs broker may add a clearance fee. Australia gives Bangladeshi goods duty-free access as a trade preference, but the customs officer makes the final decision on every parcel. If your order is near the limit, I tell you before you pay.
I always declare the real contents and value. An honest declaration protects you from delays and seizure. For other countries, see my customs duty guide.
Australia screens incoming parcels for biosecurity risks. A fabric saree is not one of them. Problems come from items packed with it:
If an item needs treatment, the Department of Agriculture charges the importer for it. I keep saree parcels simple to avoid that. My full list is on what I can't ship.
Finding and approving the right saree takes about 1–3 days. Then express shipping to Australia takes about 6–10 days, and EMS about 12–20 days. Compare carriers in my best courier from Bangladesh guide.
November to February is wedding season in Bangladesh, and bridal sarees take longer to source then. Start 3–4 weeks before your date. Sarees usually come with an unstitched blouse piece; if you want the blouse stitched in Dhaka, add about 1–2 weeks (see tailoring in Dhaka).
I buy from weavers and handloom shops I know. I turn the saree over and check the reverse: real handloom has a slightly uneven back without long loose machine threads. I send you close-up photos of both sides before I buy. Learn the signs yourself in real Jamdani vs machine-made.
One honest limit: colours on a phone screen can look a little different in daylight. If the exact shade matters, tell me, and I'll send a photo in natural light next to a white sheet.
Send your request with the saree type, budget, occasion and Australian address. I reply within 24 hours. I send photos of real options, you choose, and you pay after approving the itemized quote by PayPal, Wise, bKash or bank transfer. I fold the saree in tissue, wrap it in a waterproof layer, box it, and ship it with tracking.

Yes. Tell me the saree type, your budget and your Australian address. I buy it in person in Dhaka, send photos of the actual piece for your approval, and ship it to any Australian address with tracking. You pay only after approving an itemized quote.

Allow 1–3 days to find and approve the saree, then about 6–10 days by express courier or 12–20 days by EMS. For a wedding, start 3–4 weeks before the date.
A plain fabric saree is not a biosecurity risk. Problems come from things packed with it, such as real flowers, seeds, food, or unprocessed wood. I ship sarees without those items and declare the contents honestly.
