🚫 What I Don't Ship

What I Can't Ship Out of Bangladesh — and Why

I'd love to tell you I can send anything, anywhere — but honesty is the whole point of my service. A small number of things are impossible, some are blocked by couriers, and a few are possible but tricky. Knowing the difference up front saves your time, your money, and your parcel from being seized at the border.

💡 The short version

There are three reasons I might say no: it's illegal to export or import, a courier won't fly it, or customs in your country will block it. Everything else, I can usually source and ship. When something is borderline, I'll tell you honestly before you pay a cent. If your item isn't on the "no" list below, there's a very good chance I can help — just ask for a free quote.

1. Things That Are Truly Impossible (Illegal to Export or Import)

These are non-negotiable. No honest agent will touch them, and you wouldn't want me to — the legal risk lands on your name at the receiving end.

2. Things Couriers Won't Carry (Air-Freight & Dangerous-Goods Rules)

Some everyday items are perfectly legal to own but banned from international air shipping because they're classed as "dangerous goods." DHL, FedEx, Aramex, and EMS all follow the same airline safety rules, so this isn't a case of shopping around — no courier will carry them.

A note on cosmetics and oils

Non-flammable, sealed cosmetics and small quantities of sealed food oils (like a bottle of mustard oil packed for food use) are usually fine. It's the flammable and pressurised ones that are the problem. When in doubt, send me a photo of the label and I'll check before quoting.

3. Things Your Country's Customs Will Block

Even when an item is legal here and a courier will carry it, the destination country can refuse it at the border. The big ones:

For the full picture on what gets taxed versus blocked, see my customs duty guide.

4. Possible — But Hard, and Handled Carefully

This is the "yes, but" category. I can ship these, but they need extra steps, paperwork, or honesty about the risk:

ItemWhat makes it trickyHow I handle it
Prescription medicinesNeed a valid prescription; personal-use quantities only; some are controlled.I source from licensed pharmacies, verify expiry, and follow your country's personal-import rules. See my medicine import guide.
Insulin & cold-chain itemsMust stay cold; express shipping only.Cold-pack plus DHL express, with the right documents. See the ConviPen shipping guide.
Large electronics with big batteriesLithium-battery air rules.Battery installed in the device, declared properly — case by case.
High-value sarees & jewelleryCustoms valuation and insurance.Honest declaration, photos or video before shipping, insured courier.
Sealed food & spicesMust be factory-sealed and labelled.Vacuum-sealed, labelled, declared — the right courier for the route.
⚠️ Why I won't "just mark it as a gift" or hide contents

Some customers ask if I can mislabel a parcel to slip something past customs. I don't — and you shouldn't want me to. A false declaration risks the parcel being seized, a fine far bigger than any duty, and a permanent flag on your name that makes every future shipment harder. Honesty is cheaper every single time.

What I'll Do Instead

If your item is on the "no" list, I won't just leave you stuck. I'll usually suggest a legal alternative — a new handicraft instead of a protected antique, a sealed factory food instead of a homemade one, a non-flammable cosmetic instead of an aerosol, or the correct paperwork route for a medicine. Tell me the goal, and I'll find the honest way to get you as close to it as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you ship perfume or attar from Bangladesh?

Usually no. Most perfumes and attars are alcohol-based, which makes them flammable and banned from international air shipping by every courier. Non-flammable, oil-based or solid scents may be possible — send me a photo of the label and I'll check before quoting.

Can you ship dried fish (shutki) abroad?

I treat shutki as high-risk and country-dependent. Many destinations restrict it, and the strong smell can get an entire parcel flagged or refused. I won't gamble with your shipment, so I'll only attempt it if I'm confident it will clear your country's rules — and I'll be honest if I'm not.

Can you ship a power bank or spare batteries?

Loose lithium batteries and power banks are heavily restricted as air cargo, so generally no. A battery sealed inside a device can sometimes be shipped, decided case by case based on the courier and your country.

What if I'm not sure whether my item is allowed?

Just ask. Send me a photo or description and I'll tell you honestly which bucket it falls into — impossible, courier-restricted, customs-blocked, or perfectly fine. There's no charge to ask, and it saves us both time.

Key Takeaways

  • Truly impossible: narcotics, antiquities, wildlife products, weapons, counterfeits, bullion.
  • Courier-banned: flammable perfumes, aerosols, loose lithium batteries and power banks, alcohol, tobacco, lighters.
  • Customs-blocked: fresh produce, meat, dairy, eggs, seeds and plants, and (high-risk) dried fish.
  • Possible but careful: prescription medicines, insulin, big-battery electronics, high-value items, sealed food.
  • Always honest declarations — it's cheaper than the alternative, every time.
