Tangail sarees are light, soft handloom sarees from Tangail district in central Bangladesh โ perfect for everyday wear, gifts and hot weather. In February 2024 Bangladesh registered the Tangail saree as a geographical indication (GI) product. Here is how to buy one from abroad.
Tell me the colours, fabric (cotton, half-silk or soft silk), budget and how many you want. I buy from Tangail handloom sellers and trusted Dhaka shops, send you photos, and ship with tracking. A good cotton Tangail tant usually costs about $15โ30; half-silk and finer pieces cost more.
Tangail sarees are woven on handlooms in Tangail district, north-west of Dhaka, by weaving communities who have done this for generations. They are known for fine, soft cotton or half-silk, light weight and neat decorative borders and butis (small motifs). They are easy to wear, breathe well in heat, and are a classic gift for mothers, aunts and teachers.
In early 2024 there was a public dispute after India's GI registration for a "Tangail Saree of Bengal" was publicised. Bangladesh's Department of Patents, Designs and Trademarks then recognised the Tangail saree as a Bangladeshi GI product on 7 February 2024. When I sell a "Tangail saree", I mean one woven in Tangail, Bangladesh.
Cheaper "Tangail-style" sarees are often made on power looms. They can look similar in photos. Hand-woven Tangail usually has a softer feel, tiny irregularities in the weave and a slightly uneven border. I tell you clearly which kind each saree is before you pay โ a power-loom saree is fine if the price is right, but it should not be sold as handloom.
Tangail sarees are light (about 300โ500 g each), so adding more to one parcel adds little to the shipping cost. Families often order 4โ6 for Eid, Puja or Pohela Boishakh gifts. One or two sarees usually cost about $40โ60 to ship by express courier; bigger parcels cost less per saree. See saree to the USA, to the UK, to Canada.

A good cotton Tangail tant costs about 15 to 30 US dollars. Half-silk is about 30 to 70 dollars, and soft silk or fine-count pieces about 60 to 150 dollars.
Handwoven Tangail feels softer and has small irregularities in the weave and border. I tell you clearly whether each saree is handloom or power-loom before you pay.
One or two sarees usually cost about 40 to 60 US dollars by express courier. Adding more sarees to the same parcel adds little, because each weighs only about 300 to 500 grams.
Yes. Many customers order four to six at once for Eid, Puja or Pohela Boishakh. I can pack each one separately with a note.
