You can still send a gift from Bangladesh to the USA, and a genuine gift worth $100 or less, from a person outside the US, can enter free of duty and tax. This is a separate rule from the $800 de minimis exemption, which ended in 2025. I buy the gift in person in Dhaka, wrap it, declare it honestly and send it by express courier with tracking to New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Texas, California or anywhere else in the US. This guide explains the US gift rule and the real costs, as of October 2026.
US customs lets a genuine gift worth $100 or less enter free of duty and tax when it is sent by a person in another country to a person in the US. Above $100, the whole value can be taxed, not just the part over $100. Parcels sent by a business are not normally treated as gifts, so budget for duty and treat the gift rule as a bonus. Yes. Many people think every parcel now pays duty because the US ended its $800 "de minimis" exemption on 29 August 2025. But the gift allowance is a different rule. US customs regulations (19 CFR 10.152 and 145.32) say a bona fide gift sent from a person in a foreign country to a person in the US passes free of duty and tax if its fair retail value is $100 or less.
A July 2026 legal update on CBP's new postal entry process also says that process does not affect the $100 gift exemption. The value is the retail price in the country of shipment โ so a saree is valued at its Dhaka price, not at a US shop price.
Under the regulations, a bona fide gift is:
Here is what that means in practice. If your father in Sylhet pays for an Eid panjabi for you in New York, that is a gift from him to you. If you live in the US and pay me for a saree for yourself, it is a purchase, not a gift, and I will not label it as a gift. If you live in the US and buy a gift for someone else in the US, the giver is not "in a foreign country", so plan on normal duty.
One honest point: I run a small shopping service. The regulations say a parcel from a business firm would not normally contain a gift, and if it does, it should be clearly marked with a statement inside. I name the real giver, the real contents and the real value, but US customs decides how to treat each parcel. So plan your budget on normal duty, and treat the gift exemption as a bonus.
This is where the US rule differs from Canada. In Canada, only the amount above the gift allowance is taxed. In the US, if a shipment of gifts is worth more than $100, the gift exemption is not allowed for that shipment, and duty is worked out on the full value.
On top of the normal duty for the product, the US added a 10% Section 301 tariff on goods from Bangladesh and many other countries from 24 July 2026. US tariff rules have changed many times since 2025, so I check the likely charge for your exact item before you pay.
Example 1 โ a small gift: a $25 cotton Tant saree from a mother in Dhaka to her daughter in New Jersey, sent by express. That is roughly $25 + $12 fee + $40โ65 shipping = about $77โ102 delivered. If customs accepts it as a gift, there is no duty, though a courier may still charge its own fee.
Example 2 โ a bigger gift: a $150 Jamdani saree as a gift to Texas. It is over $100, so it does not get the gift exemption. Normal duty applies to the full $150, plus the 10% Section 301 tariff โ that part alone is about $15 โ plus any courier fee.

The person receiving the parcel normally pays. For US gifts I ship by express courier (DHL, FedEx or UPS). The courier handles the customs entry, collects any duty, and may add its own fee for the paperwork. If anything is due, the courier contacts the recipient before or at delivery.
Bangladesh Post stopped accepting US-bound parcels from 28 August 2025, after the de minimis change. I have not been able to confirm that the service has restarted, so I use express couriers for the US. If the gift is a surprise, tell me โ I will warn you in the quote if a charge is likely.
To keep a gift under $100, it helps to send one gift per parcel. Gifts for different people packed in one box are usually treated as one shipment.
Please do not send medicines as a gift. I only source medicines against a valid prescription. The US FDA says importing prescription drugs is generally not allowed, with only a narrow personal-use policy, and parcels can be held or refused. Check FDA rules, your doctor or your pharmacist before you order. Read importing medicines from Bangladesh and what I cannot ship.
Clothes are light, so shipping is often the biggest cost. These are estimates; your quote gives the exact figure.
Compare carriers in my best courier from Bangladesh guide.
Choosing and buying usually takes 1โ3 days, and express delivery to the US about 4โ7 working days after dispatch. Couriers get busy before Christmas, and Dhaka shops get busy before Eid, so message me at least 3 weeks before the date. For Christmas, that means mid-November or earlier.
For a wedding, start earlier, because sizes and colours need checking. Read wedding shopping from abroad, or see sending Eid gifts from Bangladesh.
Send your request with the gift idea, the budget, who it is for, the occasion and the US address. I reply with real options and photos, and an itemized quote. You pay after approving it, by PayPal, Wise, bKash or bank transfer. The person paying can be in Bangladesh, the US or anywhere else, but the gift label depends on who is really giving it.
I can gift-wrap it and add a card with your message, with no invoice in the box. More guides: sending gifts from Bangladesh to any country, sending a gift to the UK, sending a gift to Canada, buying from Bangladesh to the USA, and customs duty on Bangladesh parcels.
Yes. The gift allowance is a separate rule: a genuine gift worth $100 or less, sent by a person in another country to a person in the US, passes free of duty and tax. Alcohol and tobacco never qualify.
It must be given outright with no payment from the person receiving it, sent by someone outside the US, and worth $100 or less in total for one person on one day. Something you buy for yourself is a purchase, not a gift.
It can be, but US customs makes the decision, not the sender. The regulations say a parcel from a business firm would not normally contain a gift, so plan your budget on normal duty and treat the gift exemption as a bonus.
Then the gift exemption is not allowed for that shipment, and duty is worked out on the full value, not just the part above $100. Since 24 July 2026, goods from Bangladesh also carry an extra 10% Section 301 tariff on top of normal duty.
As an estimate, one or two clothing gifts cost about $40โ65 to send by express courier, and a 1 kg parcel about $60โ70. My service fee is a flat $12. Your quote gives the exact figure before you pay.
No minimum order and no fee to ask. Tell me who the gift is for, the occasion and your budget. I'll reply with honest options and a clear quote.
